In this article, The Bureau of Labor Statistics explains all types of Registered Nurses that one could become. This article also explains what tasks Registered Nurses would perform on a daily basis and gives a variety of examples and situations that an RN may face day to day. The information that could be found in this article would be the duties of a Registered Nurse, what tasks they typically perform day to day, and all the types of Registered Nurses that one could become. Not only will all of this information help me as a student going into nursing, but also on this project that we will be doing for Honors Mentorship. One quote that really stood out to me was, “Registered nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members (http://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/registered-nurses.htm#tab-2). In that quote, it summarizes what a registered nurse does in a nutshell and provides enough information to summarize what the article is about.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics gave a variety of potential quotes and phrases to the article, but as I read, I realized that the information and statistics were much vaster and the quantity of them were more. Some of the information that the BLS introduced in this article was that there a hundreds of different kinds of Registered Nurses. When you go to nursing school, you are just learning the basic information needed to become an RN. When you pass your NCLEX and become a licensed RN, you learn specialties in each part of the hospital or clinic that you work in. Also in this article the BLS listed numerous amounts of information on the duties of a Registered Nurse. Some of them are: Record a patient’s histories and symptoms, pass medicines and perform treatment, introduce a plan of care, help read and analyze tests and diagnostics. Those duties are just some of the list that the BLS has given us as student’s access to! Another set of information that will really help outline my paper are the different titles of nurses. As a Registered Nurse, most work under physicians, however there are other nurses that I had not heard of before such as LPN’s. LPN stands for Licensed Practical Nurses. They do the same duties as Registered Nurses, just an associate’s degree in college. There are also CNA’s (Certified Nursing Assistants). They do less duties than an actual nurse because they do not have a license to practice. They have a certificate to assist the nurses and patients on certain tasks and duties. With all this information stated above, it will help me outline my paper with a variety of information that all has to do with nursing.

In the article, there were many facts that stood out to me as a student that I knew would help me on my project. The BLS is a very recognizable expert company in the fact that it’s world renown and has information on just about any and every job that one could think of. The BLS is extremely unbiased as to the fact that it is a government bases agency. All the information is well-documented and seems to match up with exactly how I want my project to go.
This article fits into my potential research because it gives me all the information I need to start my project. I have a passion in my heart that drives me each and every day to become more knowledgeable of the nursing career. This article absolutely helped me narrow done some of the specialties that I may consider going into nursing. This article also adds information to my paper about the different kinds of nurses that one can be and still have a bachelor’s degree. The source was extremely helpful to me and relates one hundred percent to my potential research topic. I will use this source in my topic because it provides me with almost all the information that I need to do my whole research paper with. It was unbelievable when I found this topic. Right off the bat I knew it was the one. This article will greatly impact my research at the end of the year and help me decide as a student what part of nursing I would like to specialize in the most.
