S. W. "Nurses Will Act as Doctors Role Expansion Will Be Swift, Dramatic and Controversial." Business Source Complete. EBSCO, Oct. 2010. Web. 11 Sept. 2014.
S., W.’s article contains many different perspectives about how nurse practitioners are swiftly taking the role of doctors and many physicians. In the article, it says, “Nurses will act as doctors. Role expansion will be swift, dramatic, and controversial” (S.,W 1). Over half the United States have considered expanding the roles of nurse practitioners due to the shortage of physicians and medical doctors. In many states, Nurse Practitioners can already make some diagnosis without a doctors supervision. Some states, including Georgia, even allow Nurse Practitioners to prescribe certain medications. However, the other half of the state’s state legislators are moving more cautiously to make sure that every decision they make will positively impact each and every patient.
S., W’s article offers a variety of outstanding and credible information. In the article, there are many facts that stand out and will catch the eyes of the reader. S., W gives statistics on how swiftly the number of physicians are dropping due to the dramatic changes in health care policies. It gives a view on both states that are PRO N.P’s acting as doctors and ANTI N.P’s acting as doctors. In this article it says, “The number of NP’s increased a whopping 107% from 1999 to 2009” (S.,W 1). This text is essential because it has two honest perspectives so that both viewers can see both sides of this plan rather than see negative outcomes on one view. S.,W is minimally biased on this topic, but respects the views of the other believers enough to share both sides of the argument. It, to me, becomes more credible because S.,W gave opposing viewpoints. It appears to be credible also because of the source on which it was found, Galileo.
S.,W’ text impacted the way I think about nurse practitioners. The information given in the text was proficient and very helpful for me and a great read for people everywhere. There are two opposing views in the article, both are equally supported. S.,W talks about both the positive and negative effects that could happen if and when Nurse Practitioners do start playing the role of doctors. This article has greatly impacted the way I will do my research. This article fits into my field of work because I want to be an NP one day and knowing that I may be playing the role of a doctor or physician makes it all the more exciting. In my research, I will talk about both the advantages and disadvantages of NP’s becoming more like doctors and physicians, and support them both equally in my paper because both views are extremely important to me and the care of my future patients.
